A New Jersey native who was a police officer in North Carolina was shot and killed at a Greensboro supermarket just two days before Christmas, authorities said. Officer Michael Horan died in the shooting while responding to a report of an armed man at a Food Lion on Monday, Dec. 23, the Greensboro Police Department said in a news release. Four people were rescued by the Coast Guard in two separate incidents in Absecon Inlet, officials said. The U.S. Coast Guard Station Atlantic City responded to two rescues on Saturday, Sept. 21, the Coast Guard said in a news release. Brigantine police reported that two girls, 14 and 11 years old, were being swept out to the inlet on surfboards at around 11:47 a.m. Watchstanders issued a warning to boaters and a Coast Guard crew responded on a 29-foot boat. Two Boaters Rescued At Night From Sailboat Stuck Along Jersey Shore, Firefighters Say
Two people were rescued from a sailboat caught in choppy waves at night off the coast of Brigantine, officials said. A 35-foot sailboat got stuck in shoals at around 9 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8, the Brigantine firefighters union said in a Facebook post. The boat was sailing from Barnegat to Absecon Inlet. Rescuers Save Adult, Two Kids Swimming In Ocean Grove After Sunset
Three swimmers were rescued while in the water after sunset in Ocean Grove, officials said. Rescuers were called to a swimmer in distress near the pier at the Main Avenue beach at around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, the ANSWER team said in a Facebook post. The report was quickly upgraded to three swimmers in distress. When emergency crews arrived, they saw the three swimmers screaming for help. A New Jersey man's body was discovered in the Delaware River, authorities said. The 39-year-old Lakewood man was found dead in Bushkill, Pennsylvania, on Monday, Aug. 26, a National Park Service spokesperson said in a news release.
