Newark ICE Raid Sparks Outage As Mayor, Senators Condemn 'Egregious' Violations
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents raided a business in Newark on Thursday, Jan. 23, in which Mayor Ras Baraka said undocumented residents and citizens were detained without a warrant. One was a U.S. military veteran "who suffered the indignity of having the legitimacy of his military documentation questioned," Baraka said. Rep. Mikie Sherrill, D-NJ, is the latest name to announce she is running for Governor of New Jersey. Newark Appoints New Public Safety Director
Emanuel Miranda was named the City of Newark's Director of Public Safety on Tuesday, Nov. 12, following the resignation of Fritz Fragé, Mayor Ras Baraka announced. Baracka also named Sharonda Morris as the new police chief and Leonardo Carillo as the new deputy director of police operations.
