A 57-year-old Butler resident was driving while intoxicated when he drove head-on into a police car in Morris County on Friday, July 26, sending the officer and his own passenger to the hospital, authorities said. While Butler police were conducting speed enforcement, Charles Dampman was driving a black Ford Explorer when he entered the opposite lane of travel on Bartholdi Avenue and struck police officer Justin Brunda's parked vehicle head-on at a high rate of speed, officers said. Five men and one juvenile were recently arrested and charged with numerous residential and vehicle burglaries in Somerset County, authorities said. In October 2023, broke into a Bernards Township home through a rear sliding window and stole a 2023 Mercedes Benz, Somerset County Prosecutor John McDonald announced. The New Jersey State Attorney General's Office released surveillance camera footage and police radio transmissions after a state trooper struck and killed a Morris County cyclist in February. A motorcyclist escaped serious injury after she crashed in Jackson on Friday afternoon, July 26, authorities said. She crashed at about 2:15 p.m. at the corner of North New Prospect and Farmingdale roads, according to Jackson Police Chief Matthew Kunz. One person was killed in a crash in Monmouth County, authorities said. A driver died in the crash in Howell Township on Tuesday, July 9, according to state police data.
