A state grand jury has declined to bring criminal charges against a Fort Lee police officer who shot and killed 25-year-old Victoria G. Lee during a mental health emergency in her apartment last summer, officials said Tuesday, July 15.
The decision, announced by the Office of Public Integrity and Accountability (OPIA), came nearly one year after Lee was killed by Officer Tony Pickens Jr. at The Pinnacle apartments on Main Street in Fort Lee.

A 29-year-old Roselle man was arrested and charged with robbing a grocery store in Linden at knifepoint, authorities announced on Tuesday, July 1.
At 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, Nigel Cummings walked behind the counter at the New Way Supermarket at 816 E. St. George Avenue, Linden police said. While brandishing a knife, he grabbed the clerk and demanded money from the register. The clerk was not injured, police said.
Cummings was arrested on Friday, May 30 in Upper Merion, Pennsylvania, police said. He is being held there while pending extradition to New Jersey, police said.

An ice cream vendor was robbed at knifepoint in Newark on Thursday, July 18, authorities said.
At 9:30 a.m., the ice cream vendor was setting up their cart at the 200 block of Mt. Prospect Avenue when two men approached her from behind asking for ice cream, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. The suspects then pushed her into a cart, held up a knife to her throat while a second suspect took her bag, containing $1,000, an iPhone, a vendor's license, her ID and a bank card.
