A 53-year-old Elizabeth man recently admitted to his role in a fraud scheme involving COVID funds, phony tax filings and a fake loan application, authorities said.
In June 2020, Richard Fadraga submitted a fraudulent application for an Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL), which resulted in him getting $110,000 from the Small Business Administration in COVID-19 relate proceeds, US Attorney Phillip Sellinger said.

A 32-year-old Newark woman was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Thursday, July 11, after being convicted of possessing cocaine and methamphetamine with intent to distribute, authorities said.
In March 2021, two FedEx parcels addressed to a "John Brown" in Newark were intercepted by law enforcement and found to contain cocaine, US Attorney Philip Sellinger said. An undercover officer disguised as a FedEx driver delivered the package of cocaine to Mahogany Hawkins, Sellinger said.

NJ Homeless Shelter Killer Gets 22 Years, Prosecutor Says
A 33-year-old Newark man was sentenced to 22 years in prison after being found guilty of stabbing his roommate to death at a shelter in 2022, authorities said.
In February 2022, Michael Wylie snuck a knife into the H.E.L.P. Center Shelter and stabbed Kevin Williams, his roommate, in the face, neck and heart, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II said.
Wylie was arrested while still in possession of the knife, Stephens said.
Wylie was convicted in April of aggravated manslaughter and weapons charges, Stephens said.
