A Dollar General in Newark was robbed at gunpoint on Sunday, July 21, authorities said.
At 8:29 a.m., a man entered Dollar General at 420 Springfield Avenue through the right side rear entrance and demanded cash from the cashier, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. The suspect gestured he had a handgun and assaulted the employee on her left side, Fragé said.

A 32-year-old Rahway man was killed after his motorcycle was struck by a vehicle in Clark Township on Tuesday, July 16, authorities said.
At 7:55 p.m., Justin Almenas was riding his motorcycle westbound on Madison Hill Road, when it collided with a Honda Accord that was making a left turn from Adams Street, Clark Township police said in a release. Almenas was taken to University Hospital in Newark, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

A three-alarm fire injured three firefighters and displaced 49 people in Newark on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 16, authorities said.
At 12:14 p.m., firefighters responded to 263 South Orange Ave. for a fire, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. The fire extended to an adjacent building at 265 South Orange Ave. and a 2nd alarm was called, requesting additional firefighters to the scene at 12:48 p.m., Fragé said.

A 32-year-old Newark woman was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Thursday, July 11, after being convicted of possessing cocaine and methamphetamine with intent to distribute, authorities said.
