Car Thieves Attempted To Carjack Mercedes At Gas Station: Newark PD Car thieves driving a vehicle stolen out of East Orange attempted to carjack a Mercedes Benz in Newark on the afternoon of Sunday, Aug. 11, authorities said. The suspects were driving a stolen 2020 BMW from East Orange into Newark, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said. At 12:05 p.m., the suspects attempted to carjack another victim's Mercedes Benz from the Mobil gas station at Frelinghuysen Avenue and Meeker Avenue before fleeing in their BMW, Fragé said. Scooterist Fatally Struck By Vehicle In Newark: Prosecutor A 63-year-old Elizabeth man was killed after he was struck by a vehicle while riding a scooter on Monday, July 15 in Newark, authorities said. At 5:25 p.m., Kenneth Roy William was riding a motorized scooter when it collided with a 2016 Jeep at Frelinghuysen Avenue and Carrington Street, a spokesman for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said.  William was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead soon after, authorities said. Accident Kills Victim Pinned Between Shipping Container, Building Wall In Newark: Cops Police in Newark are investigating an accident that killed a man pinned between a shipping container and a building's wall Tuesday, June 25. Firefighters were called to a business on the 200 block of Frelinghuysen Avenue around 3:55 p.m., Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. Newark Firefighters and members of the Newark Police Emergency Services Unit moved the container, freeing the victim, who was pronounced dead at 4:50 p.m. The incident remains under investigation, but foul play is not suspected, police said.
