Anthony "Tony" Camal, a world-renowned Judo master and Paterson firefighter, died on Monday, July 29, according to his obituary on the Festa Memorial website. He was 63 years old.
Raised in Inwood, NY, Camal later moved to Totowa and Paterson, where he served for 15 years on the fire department before retiring as captain in 2013. He later settled in Woodland Park.

Eighteen people were arrested and more than $22,000 was seized in a widespread prostitution bust across Passaic County, authorities said.
Acting on citizen complains, multiple divisions of the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office conducted a quality of life operation on July 23 and 24, Acting Sheriff Gary Giardina said.

A 21-year-old Paterson resident and two teenagers were arrested and charged last week with a fatal shooting that occurred in Jersey City in May, authorities said.
On Friday, May 10, around 10 p.m., Jersey City police responded to a report of shots fired at Pearsall Avenue and Garfield Avenue, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Police located Resheed Wallace, a 24-year-old Jersey City resident, with a gunshot wound to his upper body, Suarez said. DUI Driver Crashed Stolen Car On Route 1: Police
Authorities have identified the driver of a stolen car that crashed into a utility pole along Route 1 in Central Jersey.
Jordan White, 35, of Paterson, crashed on Friday,, June 28, South Brunswick police said. He was seriously injured, they said.
White allegedly was under the influence of drugs, police said, and the 2007 Lincoln Town car he was driving was stolen.
He was charged with receiving stolen property, driving under the influence, and numerous motor vehicle violations, police said.

A 21-year-old Paterson woman was arrested and hit with multiple charges after she assaulted three arresting officers in Clifton, and bit one, on Monday, July 8, authorities said.
At 11 p.m., police saw a suspicious vehicle and a passenger, Fadwa Alchamas, who was also the owner of the vehicle, parked on Circle Avenue, Clifton Police Lt. Robert Anderson said.
