A Newark man was arrested early Friday morning, Dec. 13, after crashing his vehicle into a sign and later ramming a police K9 vehicle in Maywood, police said. The incident unfolded around 1:07 a.m. when Maywood officer John Burns spotted a vehicle at the intersection of Maywood Avenue and Lenox Avenue with its driver, Florencio Hernandez-Rivera, asleep at the wheel, the department said. The crash on Route 1 North near Black Horse Lane shut down the right lane and shoulder of the two-lane roadway on Friday, Dec. 13, according to the state Department of Transportation.
