A New York State Police trooper is recovering after being shot on a Long Island highway. The incident happened on the Southern State Parkway in West Hempstead, in the westbound lanes near exit 17, late Wednesday night, Oct. 30. According to police, a trooper exchanged gunfire with a suspect before the suspect fled the scene. The trooper was taken to a hospital and was listed in stable condition early Thursday, Oct. 31. A 49-year-old pilot from New Jersey was killed in a plane crash in Savannah, GA last weekend, officials announced. Boris Yusupov, who lives in Glen Rock, was the pilot of the Cessna 336 that crashed in a residential area around 9:45 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, according to multiple news outlets including WSAV and the FAA. Police have identified the two people killed in a three-vehicle crash on a Newark bridge over the weekend. 2,600 Layoffs Expected At NJ Hospital Chain
Nearly 2,600 people employed by a North Jersey hospital chain are expected to be laid off by the end of the year, according to a newly-filed WARN notice. This month, Carepoint Health filed notices with New Jersey's labor department indicating layoffs would begin on Dec. 12 at healthcare centers in Bayonne, Jersey City, and Hoboken. A 26-year-old motorcyclist was airlifted to the hospital with a leg injury in a crash with a Mercedes Benz in Englewood Cliffs.
