A 22-year-old Union City man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Route 80 early Saturday, Jan. 18, authorities said. A Honda driven by a 22-year-old Belleville man was heading west when it veered off the road and struck a tree in Knowlton near milepost 6.2 around 3:05 a.m., according to New Jersey State Police Sgt. Charles Marchan. The driver sustained minor injuries in the crash, while one passenger, a 19-year-old Passaic man, suffered moderate injuries. Tara Carr, a 46-year-old Woodlawn woman, was arrested on Thursday, Jan. 9, and charged with sexually assaulting a teenage boy over the course of three months, authorities said. Carr, the former director of Camp Sam at the Rastelli Kids Complex — which she owned — in Sewell, performed sexual acts on the boy in her black Chevrolet SUV four times between March and May 2024 at Marlton Park in Pilesgrove, according to a complaint warrant from New Jersey State Police. Dog Rescued After Falling In Heating Vent In Sussex County:

A dog is safe after they fell into a heating vent in Sussex County on the evening of Friday, Jan. 10, authorities said. At 7:24 p.m., officers responded to Hedden Road in Green Township on a report of a dog trapped in ductwork, Jeffrey Lebron, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said. Upon arrival, police discovered the small dog had fallen into a heating vent, Lebron said. The dog was safely removed from the vent, and no injuries were reported, Lebron said.

Barn Engulfed In Flames In Two-Alarm Sussex County Fire: Colesville FD
A two-alarm fire caused a barn to be consumed by flames in Sussex County on Monday, Jan. 6, authorities said. At 11:39 a.m., troopers and firefighters responded to the structure fire on Coykendall Road in Wantage Township and found a barn fully engulfed in flames, Jeffrey Lebron, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said. Due to the amount of fire, a 2nd alarm was tolled, requesting additional manpower to the scene, the Colesville Fire Department said. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation, Lebron said.

A 57-year-old Glen Gardner man was issued a summons on Thursday, Jan. 2 for careless driving after fatally striking a crossing guard in High Bridge in November, authorities said. On Wednesday, Nov. 27, Steven Leydon failed to yield and fatally struck Robert Bork, a 79-year-old High Bridge resident on County Road 513, Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée Robeson, Chief of Detectives Timothy Drew, and High Bridge Police Chief Brett Bartman said.
