A woman was bitten by a raccoon in Hunterdon County on Thursday, Jan. 2 that later tested positive for rabies, authorities said. The woman was bitten at a residence on Penwell Road in Lebanon Township as she attempted to leave, Lebanon Township said. The woman drove herself to an area hospital for treatment, police said. A man was attacked by a beaver while fishing in Raritan Township on Thursday, Nov. 7, authorities said. A 54-year-old Flemington man said he was fishing in the South Branch Raritan River when he noticed a beaver swimming nearby, Raritan Township police said. The man lost sight of the beaver only for the beaver to resurface and attack the victim, biting him on both legs, police said. A 90-year-old woman was rescued from a house fire in Clinton Township on Saturday, Oct. 5, authorities said. At 3 p.m., police reported heavy smoke coming from the front door of the home on 15 Westchester Terrace, the Clinton Township Police Department said in a release. Officer Michael Malanga and Fire Chief Jeff Hedden approached the front door and heard a woman yelling for help from inside the home, authorities said. A 54-year-old Whitehouse Station man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after he crashed his ATV and was trapped for more than an hour on Monday, July 15, authorities said. At noon, emergency services responded to Railroad Avenue for an ATV crash, Readington Township police said in a release. A raccoon in Hunterdon County tested positive for rabies on Friday, May 17, the Hunterdon County Department of Health. The raccoon was found in Clinton Township in the area of Andreann Drive and Hamden Road, health officials said.
