A 25-year-old Newark man was sentenced to nearly 11 years in prison on Thursday, Sept. 5 after he pleaded guilty to firing a gun during an armed robbery of an Essex County store in 2021, authorities said. In December 2021, Quayon Moore entered a store and pointed a gun at an employee, demanding the employee give Moore everything he had, US Attorney Phillip Sellinger said. East Orange Man Gets Nearly 12 Years For Dealing Fentanyl, Cocaine: Feds
A 50-year-old East Orange man was sentenced to nearly 12 years in prison on Thursday, Sept. 5 after pleading guilty to distributing fentanyl, cocaine and possessing firearms, authorities said. Carlos Santiago had previously pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine, and possession of firearms by a convicted felon, US Attorney Phillip Sellinger said. Person Critical After Newark Shooting: Prosecutor
A person is critical condition after a shooting in Newark on the early morning of Saturday Aug. 10, authorities said. The person was shot in the head on the 800 block of Elizabeth Avenue at around 1:50 a.m., the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said. They were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are in critical condition, authorities said. The shooting remains under investigation, authorities said.

Essex County Drug Trafficker Gets 36 Years For Role In Three Murders: Feds
A 44-year-old East Orange drug trafficker was sentenced to more than 36 years in prison on Tuesday, Aug. 1, for his role in facilitating three murders to further his narcotics enterprise, authorities said. Leevander Wade had previously pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy, U.S. Attorney Phillip Sellinger said. The National Weather Service has shifted its tornado watch across New Jersey and Pennsylvania as Hurricane Debby creeps in. In New Jersey, the tornado watch is in effect through 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9 and covers Bergen, Essex, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren counties in North Jersey. A police officer with roots in the New Jersey borough that he serves is battling cancer, and his chief is asking for prayers. James "Jimmy" Ciampi, of the Fairfield Police Department, was described by FPD Chief Anthony Manna as a "young, bright, and dedicated" officer. The search for a missing 65-year-old man came for a tragic end early this week. The body of Orlando Chamorro, who had been reported missing out of North Arlington on Friday, Aug. 2, was recovered from the Passaic River on Monday, Aug. 5, Essex County Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Fennelley said. A 22-year-old Jersey City man faces up to 30 years in prison after he was recently convicted of an armed carjacking and robbery that occurred in 2022, authorities said.
