A 25-year-old Newark man was convicted of murder in the first degree on Friday, Nov. 22 for his role in a fatal shooting in August 2022, authorities said. An 18-year-old Newark resident and two juveniles were arrested on Thursday, Dec. 5 for a fatal shooting on Sunday, Dec. 1, authorities said. Wes Thalerand, an 18-year-old Elizabeth resident, was shot and killed while seated in his vehicle at the intersection of Mapes Terrace and Huntington Terrace, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens and Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda said.
