Dog Turned On Burner, Causing Deadly Fire: Washington Twp FD A dog trying to get dog food ended up causing a fire that killed several pets in Washington Township on Tuesday, July 15, authorities said. At 1 a.m., firefighters responded to Canterbury Mews and saw smoke in a downstairs unit, the Washington Township Fire Department said. Crews forced entry into the unit and were immediately met with smoke pouring out of the door, firefighters said. An unconscious dog was found and immediately removed from the unit, firefighters said. 4,200-Acre Wildfire Forces Evacuations In Wharton State Forest, 5 Structures Threatened A major wildfire burning in Wharton State Forest has scorched 4,200 acres and is now 40% contained, state officials said Saturday morning. The blaze, known as the Mines Spung Wildfire, is burning in the area of the Carranza Memorial in Shamong Township, Burlington County, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service. Update: Wildfire Near NJ Golf Course Half-Contained After Scorching 35 Acres Firefighters have contained about half of a wildfire in Lakewood, where flames have scorched dozens of acres, officials said. The New Jersey Forest Fire Service said the 35-acre wildfire was about 50 percent contained as of around 7:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19. The fire was burning near Pine Park and the Lakewood Country Club. Clearstream Road remained closed between Brewers Bridge and Hope Chapel Road as crews continued their work. To combat the flames, crews have deployed fire engines, bulldozers, a helicopter, and ground teams to the site.
