Crash Shuts All Lanes Of Route 78
All lanes of Route 78 were closed in Union Township due to a crash Monday, Sept. 23, the NJDOT site shows. The crash happened in the local westbound lanes at Exit 50 to Vaux Hall Road. All lanes were closed as of 7:45 a.m. This is a developing story. Check back for more.

DUI Driver Wrecks Route 78 Memorial For Trooper Killed By Car, Police Say
A 38-year-old man is facing charges after police say he wrecked a roadside memorial for a fallen trooper along Route 78 last month while driving under the influence. David Neufield, of Berkeley Heights, was found inside of the vehicle that had struck the memorial for NJSP Trooper Thomas Hanratty at milepost 46.8 in Summit around 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, State Police said. Arriving troopers saw Summit firefighters conducting first-aid on Neufield, who was taken to a nearby hospital before he was arrested and charged with various drug offenses, including DUI. Man Leads 54-Mile Pursuit Across NJ In Stolen Box Truck Containing Heroin: Police
A 54-mile pursuit through North Jersey in a stolen box truck ended when the vehicle ran out of gas and police found the driver with heroin Labor Day Weekend, authorities said. Lyndhurst officers spotted Jose R. Reyes in a stolen 2022 Isuzuz box truck around 6:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, Lyndhurst Police Detective Lt. Vincent Auteri said. Officer Robert Litterio was the one who spotted the stolen truck at Riverside and Rutherford Avenues. Car Fire Jams Route 78 In Union County
A vehicle fire on Route 78 has closed two lanes in Union County on Monday, May 20, according to the state Department of Transportation The fire occurred on Exit 45 westbound near Glenside Avenue in Summit. Two right lanes out of three are closed and drivers can expect delays, the state Department of Transportation said.
