An important bridge helping travelers reach Cape May could be shut down for many weeks, officials said. The Middle Thorofare Bridge in Lower Township was closed to drivers, walkers, and bicyclists, the Cape May County government said in a news alert on Sunday, Aug. 18. Man Fell Off Pontoon In Cape May County, Gashed By Boat's Propeller: State Police
A man was hospitalized after he was hit by a pontoon boat's propeller in Cape May County, authorities said. A state police spokesperson said the 51-year-old man fell off the front of the pontoon when it hit a large wake in Lower Township at around 7:35 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3. The propeller gashed open the man's stomach and one of his arms. He was rushed to a nearby hospital. The man was expected to survive his injuries, police said.

West Nile, EEE Detected In Eight Mosquito Groups In South Jersey
Cape May County leaders are issuing a warning after eight mosquito groups tested positive for West Nile virus and eastern equine encephalitis. Seven mosquito collections tested positive for West Nile and EEE was detected in another during June and July, the Cape May County Department of Health said in a news release on Monday, July 22. A jet ski operator who jetted away from police when they stopped him on Memorial Day Weekend is now being sought by authorities, who are enlisting the public to help. New Jersey State Police Marine Units stopped the operator of an erratic blue Yamaha around 3:20 p.m. on Saturday, May 25 at the bathing beach in Lower Township in Cape May County, the department said.
