Township To Buy YMCA Slated For Closure After 15 Years In North Jersey Wayne Township's YMCA is closing after 15 years, and the township plans to purchase the facility. The Pike Drive Wayne YMCA, a branch of the Metropolitan YMCA, reached an agreement with local officials to sell the building, according to a press release issued earlier this month. Murder Defendant In Paterson YMCA Stabbing Takes Deal, Pleads Guilty to Lesser Charge A 34-year-old Paterson man admitted stabbing another city resident dead at the local YMCA. Jasmir Cleaves, 34, originally was charged with murder in the killing of Gabrae “Brae” Sams Jr., 29, in a fifth-floor hallway of the Y on Ward Street last Aug. 6. Police responding to the call fought to save Sams’s life. He was later pronounced dead at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center. Jasmir Cleaves, 32, was charged with murder and weapons possession following his arrest shortly before 7 p.m., authorities said. Cleaves had stabbed Gabrae Sams, 29, on the fifth floor of the Y, on Ward Street, around noon Friday, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Ashley Moore's death had been ruled a suicide after she was found unresponsive lying on the sidewalk in front of the YMCA on Broad Street around 4:10 a.m. April 1, Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F.
