Epic Fail: Would-Be Bank Robber Captured After Leaving Empty-Handed, Hackensack Police Say
A would-be bank robber who walked out of a Hackensack TD branch empty-handed ended up with bracelets instead, authorities said.
City resident Roderick Troy Smith, 32, was nabbed by Hackensack police detectives and FBI agents who spotted him on Anderson Street on Tuesday, Feb. 7, Capt. Michael Antista said on Thursday.
It began around 4:30 p.m. Jan. 18, when a man walked into the TD Bank at the corner of University Plaza Drive and River Street, passed a note to a teller demanding money and said he was armed with a gun, the captain said.

Men Who Killed 17-Year-Old Jersey City Girl Get Prison Time
A pair of men charged in the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old Jersey City girl were sentenced to state prison on Friday Jan. 27, authorities said.
Alterik Ellis, 29, and Travis DeFoe, 32, both of Jersey City, were sentenced to 35 years in New Jersey State Prison for the 2018 shooting death of Jade Saunders in Jersey City, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.
Ellis and DeFoe were each convicted at trial of murder, theft and weapons offenses, Suarez said.

An Albany man wanted out of several jurisdictions tried to run from police after they stopped his car on the Palisades Interstate Parkway and found him carrying a gun, authorities said.
Ammar Ali, 33, was driving a 2002 Honda Civic that was stopped on the southbound parkway in Alpine shortly after 1 a.m. Monday, Jan. 2, PIP Police Lt. Raymond E. Walter said.
