Crews Douse 2-Alarm Blaze In Sussex County (

Fire crews made quick work of a blaze that broke out in the basement of a Sussex County home Thursday evening. The fire was reported at 160 Mountain Rd. in Hardyston around 4:40 p.m., the local volunteer fire department said. Upon arrival, crews were met with heavy smoke and determined that an electrical fire was coming from the basement. Beloved Sussex County high school graduate and musician Jeremy Hunter Jackson died suddenly at his home on Nov. 10. He was 18. Born in Pequannock, Jackson grew up in Sussex and graduated from High Point Regional High School in Wantage this June, his obituary says. An artistic soul, Jackson was a percussionist and loved all types of music, often composing his own, his memorial says. Jackson also loved drawing and writing stories and poetry. A violent New Milford ex-con sexually and physically assaulted a woman -- holding her against her will and threatening to kill her -- before she managed to escape, authorities said. Brace For Isolated Twisters, Flash Flooding Across NJ, Forecasters Say
Up to three inches of rain, flash flooding and damaging winds were expected Thursday across New Jersey. A flash flood watch was in effect for Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren counties Thursday morning into Friday. Severe thunderstorms with potential for isolated twisters were also possible, the National Weather Service says. The main threat was expected midday Thursday into the early overnight hours, the NWS says. Storms were, however, expected to move out quickly Friday.

Tornado Watch Issued Across 16 New Jersey Counties
The National Weather Service on Thursday afternoon issued a tornado watch across 16 New Jersey counties. The watch remains in effect until 9 p.m. across Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Salem, Somerset, Sussex and Warren counties. The watch -- less severe than a warning -- was also issued for most of Southeastern Pennsylvania. Storms were expected to arrive between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., and end between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. Straight-line winds, large hail, lightning and flash flooding are also possible.

Morristown Police successfully rescued a 20-year-old Sussex man who was dangling his legs from a 5-story building during a mental health emergency over the weekend. While a mix of ice, snow and freezing rain is expected to coat the region Monday evening, another storm comprised of mainly snow could be just days away, meteorologists say.
