Man Struck, Killed By Commuter Train In Glen Rock
A man was struck and killed by a commuter train before dawn Friday in Glen Rock, authorities said. NJ Transit and Glen Rock police responded about a half-mile south of the Main Line train station shortly before 2:30 a.m., borough Police Chief Dean Ackermann said. They found the victim in a wooded area near the Route 208 overpass, he said. Official identification was pending of the man, believed to be in his late 20s to early 30s, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Firefighters from Mahwah assisted their Rockland colleagues at the scene of a raging blaze that destroyed an iconic kosher supermarket on Thursday. Motty’s Supermarket on North Main Street in Monsey burst into flames as a Ramapo police officer who saw smoke approached shortly after 12:30 p.m., authorities said. Man Struck By Commuter Train In Paterson Hospitalized
A man was taken to the hospital in critical condition after being struck by a commuter train in Paterson Thursday night, NJ Transit said. The 1134 Main Bergen County Line train left Suffern at 10:30 p.m. bound for arrival in Hoboken at 10:59 p.m., NJT’s Kate Thompson said. It had 42 passengers aboard when it struck the man soon after on Van Houten Street between Straight Street and Memorial Drive, she said. UPDATE: A 59-year-old father of three was struck and killed Saturday afternoon when responders said he deliberately stepped in front of a passenger train in Glen Rock. The man accessed the area off Rock Road near the CVS and was struck around 3:35 p.m., they said. The NJ Transit #1720 train had left Suffern at 3:08 p.m., bound for Secaucus Junction, NJ Transit's Nathan Rudy said. There were 80 people in all aboard. No injuries were reported.
