UPDATE (w/VIDEO): A firefighter with the New Jersey Forest Fighter Service was critically injured while responding to what became a destructive forest fire on Sunday, authorities said. The wildfire jumped the entire width of the Garden State Parkway from Lakewood into Brick Township, damaged homes, office buildings and commercial businesses on and around Route 70 and forced the evacuations of a hotel, businesses and an entire neighborhood. A convicted murderer from Trenton is headed to federal prison for four years for selling an illegal semi-automatic rifle and an extended magazine to a buyer who turned out to be a State Police cooperator. Edwin Gaines, 59, must serve all of the plea-bargained term approved Wednesday by a U.S. District Court judge in Trenton because there’s no parole in the federal prison system. : Early Morning Chimney Fire Tears Through Hunterdon County Home
Fire crews jumped to action to extinguish an early morning chimney fire that broke out at a Hunterdon County home. The blaze was reported just after 5:10 a.m. Monday at a home in Union Township, the Pattenburg Volunteer Fire Company said on Facebook. “Within minutes our Chief and Deputy were on scene,” the company said. No passengers were aboard a New Jersey Transit bus that slammed into an NJ Turnpike toll plaza as snow began falling heavily Thursday morning, authorities said. Police: Bethlehem Pair Nabbed For Selling Prescription Narcotics In Warren County
A man and woman from Bethlehem were charged with selling prescription narcotics in Warren County, authorities said. James Jones, 61, and Jennifer Jones, 50, were taken into custody Jan. 13 on accusations that they sold prescription narcotics in Washington Township and Washington Borough, township police said. The two were charged with distribution of CDS and conspiracy, police said. They were processed and released in accordance with bail reform.
