Driver Seized After Sunday Morning Crash Splits Utility Pole In Ridgewood
A driver was taken after custody following a Sunday morning crash that snapped a utility pole in Ridgewood, causing scattered power and communications outages in the area. The uninjured driver was brought to Glen Rock police headquarters for a blood-alcohol test and then to village headquarters after the Acura RLX slammed into the pole on North Van Dien Avenue shortly before 8:30 a.m. March 3. A home contractor's truck toppled a utility pole, knocking out power to some customers and temporarily closing busy East Ridgewood Avenue between North Maple Avenue and North Irving Street. The Home Improvements driver out of Park Ridge escaped serious injury when the pole fell on East Ridgewood Avenue around 10 a.m. Monday, July 24. Smoky Fire Damages Ridgewood Home
Firefighters doused a smoky house blaze Monday morning in Ridgewood. The fire is believed to have begun in the basement and spread upward through the walls of the George Street home off Canterbury Place -- just a couple blocks from the firehouse on East Glen Avenue -- around 9:45 a.m. April 17. A driver was hospitalized after two SUVs collided Tuesday night in Ridgewood. The extent of injuries couldn't immediately be determined after the hospitalized driver's older-model Toyota Highlander collided with a Ford Explorer at the corner of Franklin Avenue and North Walnut Stree. A Ridgewood driver whose sedan hit a tree and rolled over literally walked away unscathed -- and to his house just up the street. Responders said he may have fallen asleep before his Toyota Camry landed on its side in the 400 block of Berkshire Road shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22. Downed Power Line Closes Route 208
A downed power line closed Route 208 for hours on Saturday. The highway was closed in both directions through portions of Fair Lawn, Glen Rock, and Hawthorne on Nov. 12 so repairs could be made. The energized line also damaged a section of the southbound highway in Glen Rock when it fell, keeping a lane closed once police reopened the highway. No injuries were reported. UPDATE: A retired Teaneck police officer was critically injured when he was thrown from his motorcycle after it struck a defective piece of roadway on Route 208, authorities said.
