Ex-Cop Pleads Guilty In Double-Fatal Off Duty DWI Wreck In New Jersey, Prosecutor Says
A 30-year-old former police officer has pleaded guilty to charges filed in connection with a double-fatal wreck he caused while off duty last summer, authorities announced.
Amitoj Oberoi, 29, of Somerset, was employed as an Edison police officer at the time of the accident on Route 27 in Franklin Township that killed Carlos Perez-Gayan, a 24-year-old Somerset resident, and Victor Cabrera-Francisco, a 20-year-old North Brunswick resident, as previously reported by Daily Voice.

The National Weather Service has released snow totals from the latest winter storm.
In New Jersey, the most amount of snow from the Friday, Jan. 19 storm appears to have fallen in Hopewell Township (Cumberland County) and Mount Royal (Gloucester County), where 6.5 inches of snow were reported.
Atlantic County: Dorothy, a section of Weymouth, got 6.4 inches, the most amount of snow across Atlantic County. Six inches fell in Atlantic City, 5.6 in Mullica Township, 5.5 in Mays Landing, and on average, between 2 and 6 inches across the county.

Pair Charged With Attempted Murder For Firing At Vehicle In Somerset County: Prosecutor
Two suspects were arrested and charged with attempted murder for firing at a vehicle in Somerset County last year, authorities announced Friday, Sept. 15.
Ikeem Thomas, 20, of Covington, Georgia, and Josiah T. Talbert, 20, of Somerset, were each charged with first-degree attempted murder, first-degree conspiracy to commit murder, and various weapons offenses stemming from an incident in which they fired at a vehicle near Sunny Slope Road in Bridgewater around 3:30 p.m. on March 1, 2022, Somerset County Prosecutor John P. A repeat-offending ex-con who tried to become something of a jailhouse lawyer was caught in the act of burglarizing vehicles in Wayne after a woman he was with spilled the beans, authorities said.
Responding to multiple calls, Sgt. Mark CIavirella found a 2014 Chevy Traverse occupied by Melissa Ashmead, 42, of North Brunswick, in the area of New Street where the complaints originated, Capt. Dan Daly said.

Three teen boys have been charged, two of them with murder, in last week’s shooting of a taxi driver investigators say was motivated by robbery.
The first two suspects, ages 14 and 13, of Somerset and New Brunswick, were each charged with first-degree murder, first-degree felony murder, first-degree conspiracy, robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, and various weapons charges, Somerset County Prosecutor John P. A man from Central Jersey has been arrested for illegally smuggling guns into New Jersey from Georgia, authorities said.
Barrett R. Griffin, III, 33, of North Brunswick, was indicted on multiple weapons charges, according to Acting Attorney General Matthew J. Plotkin. The guns were allegedly intended to be sold unlawfully, he said.
