More than 100 gallons of cooking oil were spilled from a truck in a massive HazMat incident in Sussex County, authorities said. The Newton Fire Department responded to the spill alongside local police and the county HazMat team on Wednesday, June 22, the department said. Upon arrival, crews confirmed the leak and immediately worked to prevent the oil from spilling into a storm drain. One victim was extricated from a crumpled car and taken to a nearby hospital following a serious Sussex County crash, authorities said. The Hampton Township Fire & Rescue squad responded to the crash at the intersection of Route 206 and Cherry Lane the night of Thursday, May 5, the department said. Fire crews in Newton jumped to action to put out a blaze that broke out on the first floor of a 4-story apartment complex Wednesday morning.
