We're going from one wacky weather pattern to another this weekend. New Jersey has one more day of drizzle before the skies begin to clear up, forecasters say. And when they do, the region will be in for another type of unseasonable weather. New Jersey was smacked with heavy rains Friday morning, Sept. 29, with more than four inches having fallen by noon in parts of the state. The National Weather Service released a report of exactly how many inches fell across some parts of the state in the afternoon hours as responders worked to rescue trapped vehicles. Parts of Monmouth County got the most amount of rainfall, with 4.39 inches having fallen in Asbury Park and 4.18 inches in Monmouth Beach. Thousands Without Power In NJ Following Tropical Storm Ophelia
Thousands of New Jersey residents were without power Sunday, Sept. 24, after Tropical Storm Ophelia. Nearly 13,000 residents were without power Saturday, Sept. 23, but as of Sunday morning, that number was down to approximately 4,000. The bulk of the outages were in Monmouth County, where 4,636 were in the dark as of 10:45 a.m., according to the JCPL outage map. In Ocean County, 352 JCPL customers were without power. Tornado Possible, Flood Watch Issued Across 18 NJ Counties As Thunderstorms Loom
A flood watch is in effect across 18 of New Jersey's counties as thunderstorms with the possibility of a tornado moves in, the National Weather Service said. The flood watch is in effect until Wednesday evening, Sept. 13, in the following counties, according to the NWS: Bergen, Burlington, Camden, Essex, Gloucester, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Passaic, Salem, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren. Dozen Swimmers Rescued Along Jersey Shore Same Day
Nearly a dozen swimmers were rescued along two New Jersey beaches on Sunday, Sept. 3. Six swimmers in distress were rescued by Belmar lifeguards and water rescue members at the 6th Avenue beach around 6:05 p.m., police said. Rip Currents Caused By Hurricane Idalia Pose Threat To NJ Swimmers
The National Weather Service is warning Jersey Shore swimmers of powerful rip currents generated by Hurricane Idalia. The risk remains in effect through Sunday evening, Sept. 3, for beaches and Delaware and the Jersey Shore, the NWS said.
