"What was that?" was the question that rumbled through a large swath of North Jersey and into New York State early Wednesday afternoon. Mine blasting? A sonic boom? Seneca guns? Violent Fugitive From Bergen County Captured
A violent fugitive being sought by state authorities forced some schools in northwest Bergen County to shelter in place during a manhunt that ended in his capture early Tuesday, authorities said. Ex-con Justinian Rocco, 26, of Allendale was seized by Waldwick police shortly after 7:30 a.m. Jan. 3 after colleagues from Saddle River, Midland Park and Wyckoff -- along with a K-9 unit -- converged on the area to assist, they said. A 23-year-old salesman from Midland Park was arrested Tuesday and charged with trafficking child porn, authorities confirmed. Ali Aldoise was taken into custody during the execution of a search warrant at his home on Vreeland Avenue early Nov. 6, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said. Detectives from his Cyber Crimes Unit found that Aldoise “used the Internet to view, download, possess, distribute and share items depicting nude and/or sexually explicit prepubescent and pubescent children,” the prosecutor said. An early morning fire severely damaged an Upper Saddle River home near the New York State border on Friday. The fire broke out in the garage of the home on Rambling Brook Road in the northwest section of town -- barely 300 yards from the Rockland County line -- shortly before 6:30 a.m. Nov. 18, Police Detective Capt. Two occupants sustained injuries that weren't considered serious when their hatchback split a utility pole before dawn outside the Midland Park Post Office.Utility wires were downed across Godwin as the Hyundai continued into the corner of a building housing an embroidery shop just up the street around 4:45 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25. A driver was hospitalized after two SUVs collided at a Midland Park intersection, taking out a traffic light in the process. A driver was hospitalized after his SUV struck a utility pole in Midland Park. Initial details were sketchy, but responders said the driver suffered head trauma in the early-morning crash on Erie Avenue near Smith Lane on Monday, Aug. 29. SEE ANYTHING? A Midland Park business owner was robbed by two masked men who sped from the local shopping center with his luxury sedan, authorities said. Franklin Lakes House Fire Doused
Firefighters quickly extinguished a Franklin Lakes house blaze before it could do more damage. Boxes apparently caught fire in the basement of the Summit Avenue home just off Route 208 shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday, responders said. Firefighters had the flames knocked down within a half-hour, they said. The fire was declared under control minutes later. Another female victim has been added to the list of imprisoned 75-year-old New Jersey serial killer Richard Cottingham, thanks to advances in DNA technology.
