Escaped Sex Offender Apprehended After Days On The Run:

A registered sex offender who escaped from custody while being transported in Newark last week has been apprehended, authorities said. Nicholas Voutsas, 25, had escaped from a New Jersey Department of Health medical transport van while en route to a hospital, New Jersey State Police said. Police approached Voutsas at a homeless shelter for men in Brooklyn and he immediately tried to flee, NBC New York reported. A 45-year-old Newark man was arrested and charged on Monday, Jan. 13 with setting fire to a warehouse he managed in Boonton last November, authorities said. At 8:13 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3, first responders were at 95 Fulton St. for a commercial warehouse fire, Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, and Boonton Police Officer-In-Charge Captain Chris Petonak said. Three men were stabbed during a melee that broke out on an Atlantic City casino floor. Four men including one of the stabbing victims were in custody following the 3 a.m. incident at Tropicana, New Jersey State Police Trooper Alejandro Goez said.
