Authorities have released details in connection to threats made against a Passaic County high school that had left parents and students fearful. Wanaque and Ringwood officers were called to Lakeland Regional High School on Sept. 6, following reports that a student was overhead "making a threatening statement about another classmate," Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. A community is mourning the loss of a Hudson Valley woman who once owned two popular businesses in Northern Westchester and was known for her love of crafting. Putnam County resident Diane Callahan-Caro of Brewster died on Friday, Jan. 19 in Newark, New Jersey at the age of 69, according to her obituary. Born in Morristown, New Jersey in 1954, Callahan-Caro went on to graduate from Lakeland High School in Shrub Oak in 1972 before earning her bachelor's degree from Briarcliff College. Devoted Passaic County mother and black-belt martial artist Nicole D. Toulas died on Saturday, June 4 at the age of 48. Raised in Ringwood, Nicole graduated from Lakeland High School before attending the University of Tampa and earning her bachelor’s degree from William Paterson University, according to her obituary. Katarzyna "Kasia" Tieluszecka of Toms River died Oct. 4. She was 38 years old. Kasia was born in Poland and moved to the U.S. when she was 10 with her family, and attended Wanaque High School while living in Haskell, her obituary says. Remembered for her "incredible work ethic," Kasia got her first job at 15 at a local bagel store. She graduated from Lakeland High School in 2001, and went on to earn her bachelor's in business and marketing at William Paterson University. Lakeland HS Student Hides Jewish Heritage After Finding Swastika On Her Chair, Desk
A Lakeland High School sophomore says she feels hiding her Jewish heritage from her classmates after finding swastikas drawn on her desk and overhearing anti-Semitic jokes. The 15-year-old, who asked to remain anonymous in a NorthJersey.com report, says things escalated after overhearing classmates making Holocaust jokes a few months ago. Vandals Destroy Memorial To Lakeland HS Boys Killed In Crash
Friends of two Lakeland High School students died in a car crash in March were shocked to discover a memorial for them was vandalized. Brett Kuiken snapped a photo of the memorial honoring Jonathan Carlson, 17 of West Milford, and Victor Weinpel, 19 of Wanaque. covered in blue, green and yellow spray paint Wednesday. Services Set For Former Lakeland HS Teens Killed In Wanaque Crash
Services are scheduled at the same funeral home this week for two former Lakeland High School students killed last week in a crash in Wanaque. The first service will be held for Victor Weinpel, 19, at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the D'Agostino Funeral Home in Haskell. Visiting hours will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
