Fireball (Update): Gas Tanker Flips From One Side Of Route 17 To Other, Dealership Destroyed In nothing short of a miracle, no serious injuries were reported after a gas tanker truck exploded into a huge fireball on Route 17 Monday morning. A used car dealership and many of its two dozen or so vehicles were destroyed in the five-alarm blaze after the truck and a passenger vehicle collided near the U-turn at the White Castle on the highway's southbound side in Hasbrouck Heights at 5:43 a.m. Jan. 8. Suspicious Powder At Bergen County Board Of Elections Brings Hazmat Team A suspicious powder on an envelope sent to the Bergen County Superintendent of Elections Office brought a hazmat team to the county administration building in Hackensack on Wednesday. One person was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center and was released after being evaluated, responders said. A county Hazardous Materials Unit tested the substance and determined it wasn't harmful, Bergen County Director of Communications Derek Sands said. House Fire Doused In Hackensack Firefighters doused a heavy morning house blaze in Hackensack. Flames had spread from the second floor to the attic when firefighters responded to an 8:11 call at the 2½-story wood-frame home on Fair Street just off Lodi and East State streets on Sunday, April 3, Hackensack Fire Capt.
