: SUV Overturns, Topples Route 15 Utility Pole In Jefferson
A car veered off Route 15 and slammed into a utility pole in Jefferson Thursday. Traffic was being detoured through the former Pathmark around 11 a.m., closing the northbound side of the highway as crews worked to repair the pole at the Bowling Green Parkway intersection. Sunken Jefferson Boat Spilling Fuel Brings HazMat Presence To Lake Hopatcong
A sunken boat spilling fuel into Lake Hopatcong in Jefferson brought the Morris County hazardous materials team to the area Tuesday afternoon, authorities said. The 1:43 p.m. incident occurred near Main Lake Dock near Prospect Point, NJSP Trooper Alejandro Goez said. Goez did not know the cause of the incident as of 4 p.m. The Department of Environmental Protection, local fire department and county HazMat team were able to remove most of the fuel from the water. A private company was on its way to salvage the boat. Check back for details.

The community is rallying for the family of a Mount Arlington man who drowned after falling from a boat on Lake Hopatcong this weekend. The body of Jason Gil, 24, was spotted early Monday morning by Jefferson boater, New Jersey State Police said. The boat's operator, Nicholas Zarantonello, 24 of Lake Hopatcong, was under the influence at the time of the incident, NJSP said. The search for a 24-year-old man who fell off a boat into Lake Hopatcong ended Monday morning, when another boated spotted his body on the lake, authorities said. Jason Gil, 24 of Mount Arlington, fell from a pontoon boat in Jefferson around 7:40 p.m. Saturday evening, New Jersey State Police said. The boat's operator, Nicholas Zarantonello, 24 of Lake Hopatcong, was under the influence at the time of the incident, according to NJSP. A truck towing an iron motorcycle stunt circle slammed into a street sign on Route 15 in Jefferson Wednesday afternoon. The southbound side was down to one lane as of 3 p.m., Jefferson police said. Lane Closures Planned On I-80 In Morris County Saturday Night
Lanes on I-80 in Rockaway, Roxbury and Jefferson will be closed overnight this weekend as part of the first phase of a bridge replacement project, the state Department of Transportation said. UPDATE: A search-and-rescue team that numbered in the dozens on Saturday found a 34-year-old Hopatcong man whose wife reported him missing the night before. Safewise put several Bergen, Morris and Passaic County communities on the map as the safest places to live in America using newly-released crime data.
