Essex County is rife with top-rated schools. US News & World Report released its list of best high schools in the nation this week — and many of them are in Essex County. Lifelong West Caldwell resident Bryan Norton died suddenly on Monday, July 11. He was 24 years old. Bryan graduated from James Caldwell High School in 2016, where he played varsity baseball and football. and Caldwell University in 2020, having earned his bachelor's degree in sports management, his obituary says. He landed his dream job working as a partnership activation coordinator for Major League Baseball, and previously worked for the New Jersey Devils and the New York Yankees. A 19-year-old North Jersey man who lost his leg trying to stop his brother from drunk driving has died, his obituary says. West Caldwell's Joseph N. Dattoli -- "a protector by nature" -- died on Oct. 19. Joe lost his leg after authorities said his drunk twin brother, Anthony Dattoli, drove into a tree with him on the hood of the car on June 27, according to a GoFundMe launched by the Dattolis' sister.
