Some quick thinking from the Department of Public Works led to the extinguishing of a porch fire in Andover Township on Friday, Dec. 27, authorities said. At 10 a.m., the Andover DPW observed a fire on the porch and officers and the Andover Boro Fire Department responded, Andover police said. DPW personnel removed the items on fire from the deck portion of the residence which included a chair and other items and then used a shovel and snow to extinguish the fire, police said. A malfunctioning lithium ion battery led to a scooter fire in Roxbury Township on the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 13, authorities said. At 9 p.m., firefighters responded to the 200 block of Center Street in Port Morris on a report of smoke coming from a basement, Roxbury Fire and First Aid Company 2 said. Upon arrival, an electric scooter was found to be on fire in the basement, firefighters said. The strike occurred in Hope Township Monday evening, according to the local volunteer fire department. Authorities ID Man Who Died In Hunterdon County Apartment Fire
Authorities have identified Sunday's victim of a Hunterdon County fire at a housing complex for disabled residents. Thomas A. Mahoney, 62, was found with serious burns inside his apartment at The Meadows at Oldwick, around 6:40 a.m., Acting Hunterdon County Prosecutor Michael J. Firefighters doused a quick-moving blaze that severely damaged a Westwood home Thursday morning. Firefighters Knock Down Madison Garage, Car Fire
Madison firefighters knocked down garage fire Sunday morning. Flames were contained to an attached garage and car, which was parked in the driveway of the Kings Road home when firefighters arrived after 8 a.m. Firefighters ventilated the two-story home as the blaze was being knocked down. Firefighters doused a pre-dawn Thanksgiving Day blaze in a Hillsdale home. The fire broke out just after 2 a.m. in the second-floor bedroom of the Lincoln Avenue home and quickly went to two alarms, borough fire officials said. All of the occupants got out OK, they said. A fire that broke out at a Millburn home Wednesday afternoon claimed the life of one person, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office confirmed.
