Passing Of An NJ Republican Icon: State Senator Gerald Cardinale Dies At 86
State Sen. Gerald Carindale, a Bergen County conservative who served longer than any other Republican New Jersey lawmaker in history, died Saturday. A dentist by trade, Cardinale had battled health issues over the past year while seeking an unprecedented 13th term to the Legislature. Bergen County arson investigators were called to the scene of a fire that blew through the roof of a River Vale home Wednesday night. “Thankfully the family and their pets all appear to be safe,” state Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi said. Two dogs were rescued from the 2½-story Pascack Avenue home -- near the Harrington Park border – when the fire broke out, responders said. No one else was inside, they said.
