Discarded Fire Pit Embers Blamed For Glen Rock Garage Fire UPDATE: Discarded embers from an outdoor fire pit ignited a detached garage fire in Glen Rock earlier this month, authorities said. The embers “had been placed in a bucket directly next to the garage,” sparking the April 12 fire at a Beech Road residence, Police Chief Dean Ackermann said earlier this week. Responding police and firefighters found the homeowner trying to douse the blaze with a garden hose, the chief said. Firefighters from Fair Lawn and Hawthorne provided mutual aid. No injuries were reported.

Implosion Of Nabisco Factory Postponed What's left of the shuttered Nabisco factory on Route 208 will remain standing a little while longer. The borough of Fair Lawn announced the implosion, set for Saturday, April 15, has been postponed. A new date and time has not been announced.  The borough did not give a reason for the postponement, though residents had expressed concern, including launching a petition, about the environmental impacts of the implosion. Everyone got out OK and no injuries were reported in the Philip Avenue blaze off Mola Boulevard, which broke out around 7 a.m. March 23. Firefighters had it knocked down in less than half an hour.
