Discarded Fire Pit Embers Blamed For Glen Rock Garage Fire
UPDATE: Discarded embers from an outdoor fire pit ignited a detached garage fire in Glen Rock earlier this month, authorities said. The embers “had been placed in a bucket directly next to the garage,” sparking the April 12 fire at a Beech Road residence, Police Chief Dean Ackermann said earlier this week. Responding police and firefighters found the homeowner trying to douse the blaze with a garden hose, the chief said. Firefighters from Fair Lawn and Hawthorne provided mutual aid. No injuries were reported.

Box Truck, SUV Collide In Fair Lawn
No serious injuries were reported after an SUV and a box truck collided on Wednesday in Fair Lawn. Borough police and the Fair Lawn Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the crash outside a cluster of office buildings at 20th Street and Fair Lawn Avenue around 9:30 a.m., April 19. A ferocious, fast-moving fire destroyed a Saddle Brook home Wednesday night. One minor injury was reported in the blaze, which responders said ignited in the garage of a two-story home on Nicholas Court off Pehle Avenue near the Garden State Parkway shortly before 9:30 p.m. April 12. A man working on a cement truck was injured Tuesday when the vehicle ran over him at Tanis Concrete in Fair Lawn, authorities said. The 62-year-old Elmwood Park resident had his leg rolled over when the truck went into gear in the early afternoon at the River Road site, Fair Lawn Police Sgt. Eric Eleshewich said. A passenger was seriously injured when an SUV struck a pole overnight Tuesday at the border of Fair Lawn and Hawthorne. The Honda CR-V slammed into the pole alongside the BP station just south of the Lincoln Avenue bridge at Wagaraw Road around 1 a.m. April 10. Implosion Of Nabisco Factory Postponed
What's left of the shuttered Nabisco factory on Route 208 will remain standing a little while longer. The borough of Fair Lawn announced the implosion, set for Saturday, April 15, has been postponed. A new date and time has not been announced. The borough did not give a reason for the postponement, though residents had expressed concern, including launching a petition, about the environmental impacts of the implosion. A pre-dawn chimney fire doused by Fair Lawn's bravest serves as a critical public safety reminder. Fire from a chimney extended into the walls on the first floor of the Saddle River Road home shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday, March 26, Fire Chief Jake Mamo said. Firefighters Douse Destructive Elmwood Park House Blaze
Flames roared out a rear upper-floor window of an Elmwood Park home ravaged by fire early Thursday. Everyone got out OK and no injuries were reported in the Philip Avenue blaze off Mola Boulevard, which broke out around 7 a.m. March 23. Firefighters had it knocked down in less than half an hour. There was severe damage, with flames doused in a first-floor bathroom, a set-back roof and the ceiling. Mutual aid was provided by firefighters from Fair Lawn, Garfield, Saddle Brook and Clifton. Fair Lawn Man Chokes To Death On Food
A Fair Lawn man died when he choked on some food, authorities confirmed. What the 54-year-old victim choked couldn't immediately be determined by responders called to a 20th Street home shortly before 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 21.
