Truck Crash Jams Route 17
A driver escaped serious injury when a box truck crashed early Friday on Route 17 in Paramus. The driver got out under his own steam after the truck hit a pole and a tree, landing on its side on the northbound highway outside the Trader Joe's near the Midland Avenue exit shortly before 6:30 a.m. The right and center lanes were temporarily closed as a heavy duty wrecker righted and removed the truck. Traffic stretched for miles. All lanes were reported reopened at 8:44 a.m. Paramus police, firefighters and EMS responded.

Jack-Knifed Tractor-Trailer Jumps Median On Route 80
A tractor-tractor jackknifed and jumped the median on Route 80 in Paterson overnight Saturday. The mishap left the trailer on on side of the highway and part of the rig on the other part near westbound Exit 58 around midnight. Two lanes were temporarily closed on the eastbound side and one on the westbound. An ambulance took the driver to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening. Firefighters summoned a hazardous materials unit to tend to a fuel spill.

Neighbors: July 4th Partyers Don't Realize Englewood House Is On Fire, Good Samaritan Dials 911
Well over 100 attendees at an Englewood 4th of July party apparently didn't realize the house was on fire until a passerby dialed 911, neighbors said. The good Samaritan said she "happened to be walking my grandson" on West End Avenue when she "saw the left side of the house on fire" around 10:30 p.m. Saturday. "There were a lot of drunk people -- like, 150," a witness said. "Nobody noticed." No serious injuries were reported. Police charged Robert Ferrarelli, 20, with aggravated assault on a police officer, making terroristic threats during a state of emergency, rioting and resisting. …

Trespasser, 18, Airlifted After Fall From Mysterious Jefferson Rope Swing
An 18-year-old woman who snuck onto a property in Jefferson Township was airlifted to the hospital after sustaining an injury on a rope swing, authorities said. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. last Wednesday evening, on the private Schoolhouse Road property in Oak Ridge owned by Newark Watershed, Jefferson Township Lt. Robert Bush said. Initial reports said the woman fell approximately 15 feet but police did not disclose details. Doorbells ringing in the middle of the night startled sleeping residents of a Saddle Brook neighborhood. What the sleepy-eyed homeowners found at 1:30 a.m. Saturday were two good Samaritans who'd been driving by and saw some trees on fire. Matthew Blackwell of Teaneck and Donnae Cushnie of Englewood, both 24, first dialed 911, then made sure residents in the Midland Avenue townhouse community were aware of the danger. Tree Worker From Bergenfield Falls To Death In Ridgewood
A tree worker fell to his death Thursday in Ridgewood. The 35-year-old Bergenfield worker for Arrow Tree Service in Old Tappan was nearly 30 feet up when he fell and tree limb landed on top of him at a Waiku Road home off Carlton Terrace at 8:40 a.m., Police Chief Jacqueline Luthcke said. Morning Blaze Guts Orange Multi-Family Home
A morning fire ravaged an Orange multi-family home Tuesday. Firefighters found heavy flames on all floors of the three-story Park Street home shortly after 6:30 a.m. The blaze went to three alarms less than an hour later and was knocked down about a half-hour after that. Man Struck By Rockland-To-Hoboken Train
A man was hospitalized after he was struck by a commuter train Sunday night in Paterson. The Main Line #1732 train had left Suffern at 9:07 p.m. and was due to arrive in Hoboken at 10:19 p.m. when it struck the man just west of the Paterson train station shortly before 10 p.m., NJ Transit’s Lisa Torbic said. Responders said they got the victim out from under the train and took him to nearby St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center. None of the 16 people were injured and service wasn’t affected, Torbic said. NJ Transit police were investigating, she said.

Fire Ravages Mahwah Townhouse Complex
Fire ravaged multiple units of a Mahwah townhouse complex early Friday evening. Occupants all got out safely and no injuries were immediately reported. The three-alarm fire broke out in the Dickinson Manor condominiums in the Fardale section of town shortly after 5 p.m. Township firefighters moved quickly and in sizable numbers from the front and rear of the building to prevent the blaze from doing more serious damage. A driver walked away with a minor injury after an SUV rollover crash on the Garden State Parkway, responders said. A driver whose SUV crashed off Route 17 in Ridgewood Saturday afternoon apparently suffered a medical episode beforehand, responders said. A driver was hospitalized with serious injuries after a Saturday afternoon crash in Fair Lawn.
