DPW Personnel Extinguish Porch Fire: Andover Police
Some quick thinking from the Department of Public Works led to the extinguishing of a porch fire in Andover Township on Friday, Dec. 27, authorities said. At 10 a.m., the Andover DPW observed a fire on the porch and officers and the Andover Boro Fire Department responded, Andover police said. DPW personnel removed the items on fire from the deck portion of the residence which included a chair and other items and then used a shovel and snow to extinguish the fire, police said. Videos Capture Newark Housing Authority Building Explosion
Video footage captured the moment a building owned by the Newark Housing Authority exploded last week. Six people, including one with severe burns, were injured in the explosion at 39 S. Pine Lane on Friday, July 21, just after 6:05 p.m., a spokeswoman for the Newark Police Department said (scroll for videos). The explosion collapsed the building, leaving 31 people displaced. Who Dumped 500 Pounds Of Pasta In Central Jersey?
Old Bridge police are investigating the dumping of 500 pounds of pasta along a brook, township officials said. The Department of Public Works cleaned up about 15 wheelbarrows' worth of spaghetti, macaroni and other pasta after photos circulated on social media. Police were contacted after township officials learned of the piles of pasta, according to Himanshu Shah, Old Bridge’s business administrator. Swastika, Graffiti Scrawled In Seven Spots Across Montclair Park
A swastika and vulgar graffiti found at a Montclair playground is being investigated by authorities. A resident found the graffiti while walking through Edgemont Park last week, noting seven different sections marked with pictures and phrases, police said. "Among the images was a swastika in black marker," authorities said in a statement. "The images and phrases were removed by officers on scene with the assistance of the Department of Public Works." E. Orange DPW Workers Chase Down Mugger Who Robbed Elderly Woman: City
Not all heroes wear capes, as the expression goes. And in East Orange, sometimes they wear the uniform of the city's Department of Public Works. DPW employees Syid Griggs and Khalil Olivera were working near North Harrison and Main streets Oct. 10 when they witnessed a male grab an elderly woman's purse as she was leaving Bank of America on Main Street, a city spokeswoman said.
