Catalytic Converter Thief From Paterson Caught Covered In Dirt, Leaves, Garfield PD Says
Garfield police caught a catalytic converter thief red-handed, authorities said.
A Monroe Street resident heard a noise and found Louis G. Cadet Jr., 35, of Paterson doing something under a parked vehicle shortly before midnight Wednesday, Capt. Richard Uram said.
Cadet, who was carrying a tool bag, quickly fled as the resident approached him, he said.
Sgt. Michael Bocco and Officer Joseph Kopacz found Cadet in the area of Midland Avenue and Commerce Street moments later “covered in dirt and leaves as if he had been laying on the ground,” Uram said.

Judge Releases Babysitter, 64, Charged With Raping Passaic Girl, 8
A 64-year-old babysitter raped an 8-year-old Passaic girl he was watching, then was released by a judge with conditions, authorities said.
Juan Jimenez, also of Passaic, was babysitting the girl at a daycare located in an apartment at 70 Passaic Street when he sexually assaulted her, they said.
Detectives arrested Jimenez on charges of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and child endangerment for “engaging in acts of sexual penetration and sexual contact” with the girl on July 22, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Bail Reform: Released Hackensack Burglar Hits Same Business For 3rd Time, Police Say
Less than a week after he was released for breaking into two area businesses, a habitual Hackensack offender did it again -- at the same deli he'd burglarized twice before, authorities said.
Peter Tobin, 52, was picked up last Thursday and released under New Jersey's 2017 bail reform law for three Main Street burglaries within a block and a half of one another -- twice at Fairmount Eats and once at B&W Bakery, authorities said at the time.
