NJ Authorities Ask Consumers To Report Coronavirus Price Gougers
Authorities asked New Jersey residents Thursday to report any local merchants charging exorbitant amounts for virus-killing cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer and other products. They also threatened to nail gougers. The state Division of Consumer Affairs sent warning letters Thursday to 10 retailers suspected of significantly inflating prices of items associated with the current concerns related to COVID-19, Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal said. The letters warned retailers that New Jersey’s Consumer Fraud Act (CFA) protects consumers from "gross and unreasonable inflation of the pr…

Google Maps Warn Of Speed Traps: Right Or Wrong?
Police nationwide are concerned that a Google Maps feature that shows their real-time locations around the world could end up seriously injuring or killing civilians – or them. Last week, iOS users got the ability to report crashes, traffic slowdowns and speed traps across the country, a crowd-sourcing tool that a much smaller number of Android users have had since last year. Police argue that the global update, which competes with Google-owned Waze, could keep or put more drunk or drugged drivers on the road. “Revealing the location of checkpoints puts those drivers, their passengers, and…

Got A Hairy Back? Clifton Firefighter's $10 Amazon Solution Honors Late Brother
Guys, you don't have to ask other people to shave your back anymore. You can thank Clifton firefighter Charles Bolcar who, for a while, had a similar problem. Not anymore. Bolcar of West Milford is selling his patented "Ape Scrape" on Amazon for $10. The firefighter was dubbed "Hairy Sasquatch" by his brother and former Clifton fire captain Gary Bolcar while canoeing on the Delaware River, NorthJersey.com reports. After 16 years of trying to find a solution, Charles came up with the Ape Scrape -- somewhat of a homage to his brother who died in a 2003 motorcycle crash. The product has a …

What's The Deal? Residents Nationwide Ask Amazon Where 'Surprise' Package Came From
Hundreds of Allendale residents recently joined tens of thousands of fellow Americans nationwide in reporting an item delivered through Amazon that they didn't order – in this instance, an iPhone screen protector. “Tossed it in the trash,” wrote one of the recipients. “Sketchy.” “I got one to my house and to my office. Neither for phones I have,” another added. “Have been getting them too. Not once, but 3 times already,” another said. “So weird.” Should they be worried? Probably not, experts say. A flood of deliveries of an unordered item is usually part of a scam known as “brushing,” i…
