A wanted driver who fled a Palisades Interstate Parkway police stop in Bergen County late last year was captured by New York State troopers in Rockland after doing it again, authorities said. Vincent Gambrell, 56, of Orange County had initially sped off when Officer Thomas Shine tried to stop his Ford Taurus on the New Jersey side of the northbound parkway shortly before midnight last Dec. 17, Detective Sgt. Feds Charge Bergen Drug Company Owner With Embezzling $3.9M
Federal agents arrested the former chief executive officer and owner of a Bergen County pharmaceutical firm on Monday and charged him with embezzling millions of dollars from the company, authorities confirmed. John Klein, 75, transferred $3.9 million into an account that he tapped, in part, to pay credit cards charges for him and his wife, as well as for his kid's tuition, Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Smoky Roof Fire Doused At Bergen County Nursing Home
Firefighters doused a smoky blaze at a Bergen County nursing home Friday afternoon. The building was evacuated and there didn't initially appear to be any serious injuries after the fire broke out between the roof and second floor at the Russ Berrie Home for Jewish Living around 1:30 p.m., responders said. Workers have been replacing sections of the roof for the past week and a half, they said. Driver, 21, Killed In Predawn Closter Crash
A Closter driver died in a predawn crash despite furious efforts to save him, authorities said. The victim, 21, failed to negotiate a turn when his 2018 Mercedes GLE hit a tree and telephone pole before coming to rest on its side on Piermont Road near Alpine Drive at 4:46 a.m. Wednesday, Closter Police Chief John McTigue said. Closter police, assisted by their colleagues from Norwood and Haworth, lifted the car and freed the driver, who was pinned beneath the vehicle, the chief said. Lost 18-Year-Old Hikers Rescued From Woods Along Palisades Trail
Responders rescued two 18-year-old hikers who got lost in the woods along the Palisades after dark. Palisades Interstate Parkway police were joined by various rescuers who helped find the pair near the State Line Lookout in Alpine shortly before 8:30 p.m. Monday. These included Alpine firefighters and members of the Closter Ambulance & Rescue Corps with a rescue truck and ATV.
