UPDATE: Three cats died in a fierce fire that all but destroyed a Fair Lawn home, officials said. The feline trio were the only ones home when the three-alarm blaze ignited at the front of the nearly 100-year-old wood-frame house on 5th Street off Morlot Avenue shortly before 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24. Burglar Caught In Fair Lawn Home Tries To Run Down Owner, Police Charge
A fleeing burglar tried to run down a Fair Lawn homeowner who found him in a house under construction, said police who caught him nearby. Isaiah Townsend, 25, of Newark fled the 5th Street home near Hopper Avenue after the 49-year-old homeowner discovered him on the second floor around noontime Friday, Sgt. Brian Metzlers aid. Fair Lawn PD: Couple Took Everything AND The Kitchen Sink
A Fair Lawn couple swiped a refrigerator and other sellable items from several area businesses, authorities charged. Fair Lawn Police Officer Juan Rodriguez stopped their car on 5th Street at Bergen Avenue and arrested the driver, Michael Katz, 45, and passenger Irene Katz, 43, after finding a stolen refrigerator, cooking pot and aluminum sink in their vehicle, Sgt. Brian Metzler said. Officers also found heroin and crack in the vehicle, Metzler added. The items -- which police suspected the couple intended to pawn -- had been stolen from behind businesses on River Road at Bergen Avenue. …
