The unidentified man's body was found around 12:30 a.m. on a stairwell at the Morris Street station, Acting Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll said alongside local and county authorities.

The incident was being investigated as a homicide, according to initial and unconfirmed reports.

Law enforcement agents from the Morris County Sheriff's Office, New Jersey Transit Police Department and Morristown Police Department were at the scene for several hours investigating.

An autopsy was performed by the Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office. The cause and manner of death are pending. The man's identity was not being released as of Monday evening.

The Morristown train station platforms are open for normal operations.
