New Jersey Transit Police Officer Daniels and Crisis Outreach Officer Pfeifer saw the man wearing "torn and soiled" clothing at Morristown Station and asked if they could help him, the department wrote on Facebook.
“He was experiencing homelessness and was in dire need of assistance,” the post said.
After the man accepted their offer, the officers were able to reserve him a hotel room for the night with help from the Morristown Office of Temporary Assistance.
“This was an important first step in establishing further potential shelter,” the department said.
The officers also bought the man new clothes, shoes and other essential items before giving him resources to help determine his next steps.
“The man wished to remain anonymous but agreed that we share this story to inspire more people to help others," the post said. "NJTPD Crisis Outreach officers continue to offer assistance and hope to those in need throughout the statewide system.“
