'You're Good:' NJ State Troopers Often Gave Connected Motorists Free Pass, Comptroller Finds
The difference between getting a ticket and getting a warning from a New Jersey State Trooper could be based on who you know, according to a new report from the New Jersey Comptroller's Office. As part of its Police Accountability Project, the comptroller's office reviewed camera footage of 501 stops by state police that did not result in a ticket. In 27% of the stops, motorists presented a courtesy card, claimed to have a friend or relative in law enforcement, or flashed a law enforcement badge and then were let go, the report said. The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office has released body-worn camera and surveillance footage of an officer-involved shooting that left a 41-year-old New York man dead. Wanted Trio Arrested After Shooting, Found With Drugs At Atlantic City Motel: Police
A wanted Camden man was accused in a shooting and found in an Atlantic City hotel room with two other people with arrest warrants, authorities said. Ricardo Berrios, 37, was charged in the shooting on Friday, July 5, the Atlantic City Police Department said in a news release on Wednesday, July 10. He was already in custody on drug charges. Police found a 53-year-old Atlantic City man with a gunshot wound on the first block of South Florida Avenue at around 12:53 a.m. He was brought to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, Atlantic City Campus, and was expected to survive his injuries. …

Wanted Man Claimed He Was State Trooper During Jersey Shore Noise Complaint Call: Police
Two Atlantic City men were accused of threatening officers responding to a noise complaint, including a wanted man who claimed he was a state trooper, authorities said. Brigantine police arrested 23-year-old Jonathan Murillo and 22-year-old Onix Murillo-Hernandez on Monday, June 10, the department said in a news release. They were found when officers responded to reports of a loud group outside a home on the 4100 block of Brigantine Boulevard. Armed Convict Arrested On Bicycle: Lawrence Police
Lawrence Township Police Officer Piotr Bystrek was on routine patrol on Friday, May 31 at about 2:35 a.m. in the 2100 block of Princeton Pike in Lawrenceville when he observed two males on bicycles commit a traffic violation. Bystrek made contact with the Princeton males who were positively identified as Jaylin Derry-Poole, 20, and Alfred Jornegay, 31, Lawrence Township police said.
