Surfer Dies After Water Rescue At Gilgo Beach: Suffolk Police  A surfer was pulled unresponsive from the water at Gilgo Beach and later pronounced dead at a hospital, Suffolk County police announced on Sunday, Jan. 19. Marine Bureau officers responded to the Babylon beach at approximately 2:20 p.m. after a good Samaritan spotted and pulled an unresponsive man from the water, police said.
