Jersey Shore Performing Arts HS Teacher Molested Female Student, Prosecutors Say A former teacher at an Ocean County performing arts high school was accused of molesting a female student, authorities said. Douglas Bollinger, 56, of Neptune City, was charged on Monday, Aug. 12 with two counts each of endangering the welfare of a child and criminal sexual contact, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said in a news release. Bollinger was a teacher at the Grunin Performing Arts Academy at Ocean County Vocational Technical School (OCVTS). More Than 13,000 Without Power On Jersey Shore After Substation Failure Thousands of residents in two Ocean County townships were without power after severe thunderstorms raced across the northeast and caused a substation to fail, officials said. According to the outage map for Jersey Central Power & Light, 13,688 customers had no electricity as of 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 27. More than 13,000 of those affected were living in Barnegat or Waretown. The JCP&L data said nearly 100 percent (8,606) of Barnegat's 8,620 customers and about 86 percent (4,607) of Ocean Township's 5,355 customers lost power. Man Admits To Stealing $100K+ As Treasurer Of Jersey Shore Fire Department: Prosecutors A former official at an Ocean County volunteer fire department admitted to stealing more than $100,000, authorities said. Salvatore Umek, 46, of Point Pleasant Beach, pleaded guilty on Monday, June 10 to theft, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said in a news release. He was the treasurer for Point Pleasant Beach Fire Company No. 2. Investigators said Umek stole about $100,000 from the fire company's bank account to pay off personal credit card debt between February 2019 and November 2021.
