Wanted NJ Child Abuser Busted With Police Uniform, Handcuffs In NY Traffic Stop, Cops Say
A man who had been wanted out of New Jersey on child abuse charges was arrested in a New York traffic stop last week, when authorities found him with police uniforms and handcuffs, they said. Joseph Zuziela, 43, of Branchburg, NJ, was stopped in Oceanside, NY on Thursday night, Aug. 8. Tornado Watch Shifts, Now Covers These Counties Across NJ, PA As Debby Creeps In
The National Weather Service has shifted its tornado watch across New Jersey and Pennsylvania as Hurricane Debby creeps in. In New Jersey, the tornado watch is in effect through 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9 and covers Bergen, Essex, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren counties in North Jersey. NJ Reports Three West Nile Virus Cases
The New Jersey Department of Health has confirmed the state’s first human cases of the West Nile Virus, much earlier than in prior seasons. Two residents, one more than 70 years old and the other under 18, tested positive for the illness transmitted by mosquitoes after reporting symptoms in the first week of July, the state's health department said. A 37-year-old man is at large after he unlawfully possessed a handgun in Somerset County in June 2021, authorities said. James Schoenknecht was named Somerset County's Fugitive of the Month for August by the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office. He has remained at large since he was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun and possession of a prohibited weapon or device since an incident that occurred on June 26, 2021 in Sound Bound Brook. Somerset Teen Gets Five Years For Assaulting Employee, Fracturing Face: Prosecutor
A 19-year-old Somerset teen was recently sentenced to five years in prison for brutally beating an employee at a business in Franklin Township in Nov. 2022, authorities said. On Nov. 23, 2022, Thanksgiving Eve, Yahmir Brown, along with a juvenile, assaulted an employee of a local business on Hamilton Street in Franklin Township, Somerset County Prosecutor John McDonald said. The employee suffered multiple facial fractures, McDonald said. Brown was sentenced after being convicted of aggravated assault in May following a weeklong trial, authorities said.

6 Charged In Luxury NJ Car Thefts: Prosecutor
Five men and one juvenile were recently arrested and charged with numerous residential and vehicle burglaries in Somerset County, authorities said. In October 2023, broke into a Bernards Township home through a rear sliding window and stole a 2023 Mercedes Benz, Somerset County Prosecutor John McDonald announced. A 73-year-old driver from Somerset County died of his injuries on Sunday, July 21 — five days after a single-car crash on Interstate 287 in Middlesex County, authorities said. Bill Schocklin was driving south near milepost 8.8 in Pisscataway at about 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16 when his Nissan veered off I-287, struck a guard rail and overturned, according to New Jersey State Police Sgt.
