Thomas H. Barney died at his South Plainfield home on Sunday, August 6, his obituary says.

Born in New Brunswick, Thomas had lived in South Plainfield his entire life, graduating from South Plainfield High School in 2008.

Thomas spent several years as a landscaper and had more recently worked with Ryland Inn for East Coast Parking in Valet, his memorial says.

Described as having a laid-back personality, Thomas “always kept a positive attitude and his head up high” when times grew tough, reads his obituary.

Above all, Thomas embraced his role as a caring father to his two daughters, Olivia and Lillian.

In addition to his children, Thomas leaves behind his loving mother, Elaine Barney; cherished father, Thomas H. Barney, Sr.; and many extended family members and close friends.

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe launched for Thomas’ children following his unexpected passing had raised more than $3,600 as of Thursday, August 24.

“I’m starting this GoFundMe for my children’s father, Thomas Barney Jr.,” reads the campaign, launched out of Flemington by Jennifer Milford. “He has passed away suddenly this morning.”

Thomas’ memorial was held at McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals in South Plainfield on Saturday, August 12.

“We are starting this to help assist in any services and or help that his parents or children may need,” writes Milford. “Any help would be greatly appreciated.”
