Car Thief Confronted By Wyckoff Homeowner Turns Out To Be 14-Year-Old Garfield Boy
A would-be car thief who fled a Wyckoff driveway after the new BMW X5’s owner confronted him turned out to be a 14-year-old boy from Garfield, authorities said. The teen hopped into a waiting Dodge Charger that was trailed by a Nissan Rogue, both of which sped from Atwood Place early one late-March morning, Wyckoff Police Lt. Joseph Soto said. Sgt. Wyckoff police issued an alert after witnesses reported seeing a man and two women flee the Boulder Run shopping center off Franklin Avenue in a red 2018 Jeep. An overdosing 67-year-old motorist had to be revived with Narcan after his sedan struck another at a Route 208 exit in Franklin Lakes, authorities said. A 61-year-old psychiatric patient who wandered off from a senior care facility in Wyckoff was found a short time later in Hawthorne, authorities said. The man left the Christian Health Care Center on Sicomac Avenue on foot shortly after 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 7, Wyckoff Police Lt. Kevin Kasak said. Fortunately, he didn't get very far. A female pedestrian was struck on a Wyckoff sidewalk by an out-of-control vehicle driven by a 17-year-old boy, authorities said.
