A professional powerboat racer from Atlantic County has admitted faking his offshore death to avoid bank fraud charges, authorities said. Andrew Biddle, 45, of Egg Harbor Township allegedly disappeared for more than six months in 2014 after staging a sailboat crash, according to a federal indictment. Biddle pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court on Wednesday, Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig said. Six boaters were rescued by members of the US Coast Guard and a good Samaritan approximately 34 miles east of Atlantic City Thursday. Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay Command Center in Philadelphia received an alert that a 28-foot pleasure craft with six people aboard was taking on water due to the inclement weather and the heavy seas in the area. New Jersey State Police and staff members from University Hospital rescued three jet skiers who were stranded in a marshy area on the Jersey Shore. Troopers from the Marine Services Bureau were dispatched to a marsh near the Ocean City Airport around 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, when the mother of one called in the situation to police, New Jersey State Police said. Members of the U.S. Coast Guard rescued a pair of duck hunters stranded on an island in Little Egg Inlet in Brigantine Tuesday. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay received a call from Sea Tow around 3 p.m., that the hunters had their boat on the island, but were unable to get it to back, Coast Guard officials said. Coast Guard: One Dead After Boat Capsizes On Raritan Bay
One person died after a boat capsized on the Raritan Bay Saturday, the U.S. Coast Guard said. A good Samaritan pulled the victim's body from the water after the boat overturned near Keyport around 10 a.m., and immediately began CPR, reports say. Responders rescued a family of lost, dehydrated hikers stranded in the dark 350 feet above the Hudson River. It was the fourth rescue in just two weeks from cliffs along the Palisades between the George Washington Bridge and the Rockland County border. Jalan Alston went into the ocean off Ventnor Friday night to rescue two women caught in rough waters brought by Tropical Storm Fay, the U.S. Coast Guard and Ventnor police said. Body Of Missing Fisherman From Turkey Who Fell Off Kayak Found On Jersey Shore Riverbank
Authorities in Monmouth County on Monday recovered the body of a man who went missing after falling out of a kayak last week. Nedim Aksoy, 50, of Bordentown was one of two men who fell out of kayaks while fishing near the Oceanic Bridge in Rumson around 11 p.m. Thursday, June 4, the U.S. Coast Guard said. While one of the men was wearing a life jacket and able to swim safely to the shore, Aksoy was not wearing one and instead vanished underwater, authorities said.
